Halfway to Home is sad to report that long-time volunteer and friend, Jack Isomaki, has passed away.

Jack began volunteering with us in 2010, coming out to the rescue a few times a week to walk and exercise the dogs. Jack answered all the emails (sometimes as many as 50 inquiries a day) and was known as the “Pit Man” because of his advocacy for the Pit Bulls that came through the rescue. He personally fostered numerous Pit Bull and Pit-mixes until loving homes could be found for them.

We cannot fully express our gratitude for all Jack has done for HWTH and thousands of dogs in the Antelope Valley.

Please continue reading, below, if you want to help extend the work Jack was doing.

Jack died unexpectedly, leaving behind 7 dogs, two of which were puppies. They were strays who showed up at the same house a few minutes apart, they are possibly siblings. The finder couldn't keep them so they went to the Lancaster shelter, but the finder continued to network them everywhere until Jack decided to get them himself.

The Vet estimates they are about 6 months old.

They are very playful and people-friendly and would likely get along with other dogs and/or kids but they haven't been tested.

Both dogs are fixed, have their shots, and are microchipped.

They may be adopted together or separately.

Did you know that October is Pit Bull Awareness Month? We would love to find homes for these dogs, to honor Jack’s life and legacy. Please call Halfway to Home at 661-824-4495 if you would like more information about Zion (white male) and Gema (blue female). We will also be bringing these dogs to our adoption events this Saturday, October 14th at Petco Palmdale and Sunday, October 15th at Petco Saugus.
